On December 4, 2015, a leak of nitric acid occurred at the Smucker’s factory, located in Sherbrooke, Quebec. About 500 liters spread onto the factory floor into a recycling bin created for this type of incident. Several precautionary measures were taken to prevent risks to the twenty firefighters who were deployed on site, as well as the Environmental Emergency Team.
The incident was reported by employees who noticed a yellowish smoke coming from the building. They immediately left the factory and contacted emergency services.
No one was injured.
